The Painting That Waited for Me
Some paintings come easily.
Others take their time.
This one waited over a year.
It started with a photo from a country walk. My daughter had caught the moment; me standing by a quiet field fence, a horse pressing his head gently into mine. A brief, instinctive exchange. Nothing posed.
But when I sat down to paint it, something held me back. Maybe it felt too personal (maybe I look too scruffy, too fat, too...) Maybe I wasn’t quite ready to share it.
I put it aside.
Time passed. Life happened. I painted other things.
Then one day, I came across the reference photo again.
And it stopped me. Just like it had stopped the horse.
That’s when I realised, not every piece needs to shout.
Some paintings whisper.
They say:
I remember you.
I see how far you’ve come.
There is softness in strength.
So I painted it. Quietly. Layer by layer.
And when I finally shared it?
My friend cried!
Not out of sadness, but because it reached somewhere deep. Some connection she hadn't realised was there.
That’s the thing about art.
It’s not always about what it shows.
It’s about what it stirs.
Frank & Laura's Story...
I want to share something personal with you this week.
You might already know that I donate 10% of every sale to cancer research, it’s part of why I paint.
But last week, I did something a little different.
I donated towards sponsorship for Framk.
Frank’s mum, Laura, was given the exact same cancer diagnosis as I had back in 2007. We both faced the same fears. The same awful question that keeps you awake at night: What if I’m not here for my children?
We both survived. For a long time.
But sadly, Laura’s cancer has returned. She’s now receiving palliative care.
Frank is her only child. He recently ran the Race for Life in honour of his mum, his way of showing love, bravery, and hope in the face of something that feels so impossibly big.
So instead of donating to my usual cancer charity last month, I chose to sponsor Frank.
Because this isn’t just about numbers or percentages, it’s about people. Families. Stories. The invisible threads that connect us.
And it’s also a quiet reminder of why I do what I do.
Why art.
Why giving back.
Why every single order matters.
So if you’ve ever bought from me, thank you.
You’ve helped support moments like this, real ones. And I don’t take that lightly.
💌 When you’re ready…
