Inspiration behind this painting:-A hazy Sunday afternoon meandering across the beach in St Ives. A couple walking in the opposite direction were having an animated conversation.The lady seemed jolly and coaxing. The man, head downwards, seem less enthused. As though he were contemplating her words, deep in thought.It intrigued me...what was she asking him? To stay and he was feeling guilty? Is he hiding something from her that he just can't bring himself to say? Perhaps she'd proposed and he was wondering how to decline..?! Hhmm....? I wonder.
