  • Inspiration behind this painting:-

    It was my birthday in January. 5.00am and compelled to leap out of bed to drive half an hour to my favourite place to watch the sun rise! Why not?

    Porthgwarra is a small cove, quiet in Winter months, with narrow access lanes in and out. Delayed only by singing birds, I drove without obstacle. Once there, equipped with flask, blanket and hot water bottle, I made my way on foot down to the beach.

    Astonished to see an aged chap wade calmly into the sea. Accompanied by a seal, he took his early morning swim. Brrrr! If only I were brave enough! He lives there and swims daily, he told me.

    The sun rose bringing a crisp, cold and reassuringly calm day with her. Joined by a robin, eager for tidbits, I began to paint the scene before me. A birthday not to forget and only fuel money spent. Ahhh, life is good.
